In this week’s Photo of the Week on the Daily Critique Craig discusses a beautiful impromptu portrait that was submitted as part of TME’s Community
Assignment Number 3 : Stranger and discusses the following points:
- on camera flash in low light can have the effect of a fast shutter speed allowing us to shoot handheld at lower shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible
- a fast 50mm lens can be a great lens for shooting impromptu portraits
- working with fast lenses and wide open or close to wide open apertures and the resulting shallow depth of field can help us to simplify what might be otherwise distracting backgrounds
- the power of a harmony of color design scheme
- building rapport by slowing down with both your body language and the way you use words and your voice
- building community for yourself, your work, and for others by over coming your approach fears and regularly establishing rapport with strangers who you subsequently photograph
