Savannah Creativity Photography Workshop

Next Step Spring 2010
March 21 – 27, 2010
(Sunday at 3:00 pm – Saturday at 1:00 pm)
Savannah GA
Instructor: Craig Tanner
Tuition: $1,295
Deposit: $300
The Next Step workshop is about peeling away fear, expectation and convention and finding the passion, purpose and the heart of your work as an artist. This workshop is about getting who you truly want to become as a person and artist into your photography.   The Next Step workshop is about uncovering your unlimited potential as an artist and human being.   Craig has designed a series of fun and challenging exercises that facilitate the peeling away of layers of fear and expectation and finding your passion.
The beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia, with its lovely squares, the historic district, lively River Street and music scene, with a possible trip to one of the barrier islands or historic Bonaventure Cemetery, will be the backdrop for our explorations.
The general schedule for this workshop is shooting sessions in the morning and in the late afternoon. There are classroom sessions for lecture and/or image critique during the day, including digital darkroom techniques for post processing your images. The schedule is flexible and dependent on weather.   Please be flexible as we have the option to change the exercises as we go.
This six-day creativity workshop is limited to 12 participants to insure a maximum amount of individual instruction and to insure a powerful sense of community among the participants.

“I used to say “I like photography”, but could never say “I am a photographer”. Now I can. I came away with a different sense of myself, my competence as a photographer, and learning how to feel safe enough to take risks in my approach to photography. I feel like I am forever changed as a person; that may sound hyperbolic, but it’s real.”   Daniel G.  Next Step:  2009
“My goal coming in to this workshop was to work with other talented photographers and learn from them. I expected that learning to be technical, which did happen. But it turned out to be so much more. The environment you two have created for this workshop is certainly a  rarity.... You gave me the  opportunity to be my most creative self, and the best person that I can be,  at a non-stop, breakneck pace, for a week. I am honored to have been a  part of such an experience. ”  Jorj B. Next Step: 2009
“The Next Step workshop started out as a way for me to become a better photographer by breaking down unknown barriers that limit my creativity. It transformed magically into a deep reflection of who I am as a person and how these very same barriers limit me in the rest of my life. I am forever thankful to Craig and my fellow participants for encouraging me to jump to the next step. My journey continues….”  Steve B. Next Step, 2007
Additional Information:
Getting There:

The closest airport to Savannah is the Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport (SAV).  The airport is approximately 15 minutes from downtown Savannah.  There is taxi service and there are rental cars available at this airport. Taxi fare to the historic district where our hotel is located is approximately $25.00.

We will only need enough cars to transport participants away from the city to shoot at one or two locations outside of the city, weather permitting.  For the rest of the time, all of our shooting locations are within walking distance of the hotel.  We do encourage the participants to share rental cars.  We will release workshop participant contact information to the members of this particular workshop, with each participant’s approval, as the workshop dates approach so that you may arrange car sharing, etc. with each other.
