"Self Critique - Landscape Photography" by Craig Tanner

Posted: July 1st, 2009 @ 11:28am

In today’s Daily Critique Craig takes a critical look at his own work and talks about the idea of approach to image design as it relates to his landscape photography:

- how the subject matter itself has an effect on approach and process

- defining the purpose of your work to clarify your vision and grow your creativity

- the power of journaling

- for landscape shoots knowing times that relate to sunrise, sunset, twilights, tidal and moon phase for your location

- identifying or working towards a style as a way to become more self directed and visionary in your approach

- in addition to studying and working with the language of design also considering the more subliminal language of archetypes or universal symbols

- sketching as way to do a better job of seeing and as a way to make a habit of saying yes to the process

- editing your work in the context of purpose for the shot and the potential power of archetypal and subliminal communication
