The Daily Critique

"Mike from New Jersey" by Craig Tanner

Posted: July 20th, 2009 @ 4:45pm

In today's Daily Critique Craig looks at a powerful portrait and discusses the following:

- the creative power of getting out of our comfort zone and going past a fear

- focal length and working distance in portraiture

- using a shallow depth of field to help our portrait subject separate from the background

- dynamic placement of the portrait subject

- how important hands can be in a portrait

- shooting lots of variations when we photograph people

- converting to black and white when the overlay of color is potentially visually overwhelming the main subject
