The Daily Critique

"Yves from Texas" by Craig Tanner

Posted: February 10th, 2010 @ 12:01am

In today’s Daily Critique Craig looks at a beautiful portrait and discusses the following:

- Metadata = Canon 5D, f2.8 100mm lens, ISO 320, f9@ 1/160th

- 100mm as a classic portrait focal length

- clamshell lighting

- working f stop and depth of field

- quality of line, negative space shapes that are dynamic, and image unity

- the power of the implied movement / energy of the hair as a subject

- working with Adobe Photoshop CS4 to accentuate the face and eyes

- the potential visual power of catch lights in portraiture
