Photo of the Week - Group Portrait - Silhouette

"Kalyan from India" by Craig Tanner

Posted: January 7th, 2011 @ 12:01am

In this week’s Photo of the Week on the Daily Critique Craig looks at a powerful  group portrait and discusses the following:

- putting a powerful twist on the extremely mature concept of the photographic silhouette

- how details like edge textures and differences in what the subjects are wearing fuel the imagination’s additions to the story of this image

- classical proportion of a small amount of high value color vs. a much larger amount of lower value color

- the unifying effect of repetition of shape

- stabilizing effect of the near square crop and how well that plays off of the very strong stabilizing gesture of the arm on the hip

- Meta Data – Panasonic Camera – EFL of  apx. 60mm ISO 80 f5@ 1/125th
