Photography Critique - Abandoned Sugar Mill - Kauai, Hawaii

"Greg from Montana" by Craig Tanner

Posted: January 19th, 2011 @ 12:01am

In today’s Daily Critique Craig looks at a powerful story driven image and discusses the following:

- Using perspective distortion as a storytelling device

- The power of a setting or environment with a lot of details for images that are story driven

- The visual design archetype in interior shots of having small high contrast and very bright areas in the far reaches of the space

- Imagining shooting the same shot at night and working with more of a cinematic lighting pattern (spots of light surrounded by pools of shadows)

- using Adobe Photoshop to present an alternative version of the image

- Metadata – Can 50D, EFL 80mm, ISO 200, F11@ ½ sec
