Didji, the umbrella cockatoo, getting a tummy tickle from my son Bobby.

She is a bird who is obviously loved! On her back? There's trust! She's beautiful, Flo!

PPY-definitely!

thanks, Greg. Didji is a "he," however. Which makes him louder when he's upright! He likes to display with every single feather on his body sticking straight out and with crest, wings and tail fully extended.

All species of cockatoos are very playful. I've seen a video on the cockatoos in their natural habitat and it showed some of them lying on their backs repeatedly tossing a little stick into the air and then catching it! They also like to put an object in their mouth and with their beak on the floor or soil, just run around like crazy. Sometimes they even run into things such as furniture or a tree/bush/rock!

Here he is beginning his display. I don't have any shots of his full display because he moves too fast, lol.

An image showing how he runs around with a ball in his beak touching the floor.

He's not very elegant in that first shot! I bet he's a real handful.Smile

Kind regards,

Thanks, Trevor. Yes, he can be real sweet and a real handful and a real earful, too!

Very interesting creature.I guess,it is very difficult to make photos of him, because he is white,so the camera must deal with high contrast. So,i look, and must look again, and say,oh,this is bird, how funnyGrin

Thanks, Albert. Yes, due to his whiteness and darker backgrounds, it is hard to get the exposure right - when I can get most of him in the image, that is. He doesn't like to stay still when people are around.
