| April & Micheline | April 22, 2011 @ 12:03pm | As recently discussed on your blog, April - here's what I discovered about using Curves the way you did to pp your "Cloud Play" image:
The Original:

Larger
PS CS3: Layers>Adjustment Layers> Curves adj layer>Auto Curves adj Layer>Options>Enhance Monochrome Contrast
Also: Snap Neutral Midtones (this removed a slight cyan color cast that I hadn't realized was there)
Blend mode Luminosity (brought back a tiny bit of the cyan cast, so discarded that idea)
Blend mode Multiply>white mask>painted back into the image the upper half with black brush.

Larger

| April 22, 2011 @ 6:36pm | It is amazing what that does -- what you did -- to separate the rising mist!
I've shied away from "auto" anything in Photoshop, wanting to understand what a process does instead of relying on the software. Now I wonder what other possibilities I've missed, not necessarily for the finished product but as steps which might help lead the way.
I really like the feeling of depth and magic in this image.

| April 23, 2011 @ 7:28am | Thanks, April. I love how a suggestion by one member can inspire another to try something and come up with some new effect.
