Lightroom Healing Brush Clean Up - January 7, 2009January 7, 2009 @ 2:51pm
In this Digital Darkroom episode Patti Schulze works in Lightroom with the healing brush. Every digital photographer knows removing dust spots has to be a part of your workflow – particularly if you will be making large prints. Patti shares keyboard shortcuts to give you a workflow that allows you to remove dust spots in a systematic way that insures you have cleaned every area of your image.

Glad to see you back Patti. And, as usual, you did a great job on teaching us how to use the healing brush in Lightroom.

I was more greatfull for the "how to" navigate around the image while using the healing brush.

I never knew those steps.

Thank you.

Thanks everyone. Glad the information was helpful!. Also note that you can use the page up and page down trick in Photoshop when editing RAW images.

Patti, are you talking about being in Adobe Camera Raw or in Photoshop itself?

In Photoshop I seem to need the CMD key with PageDown to move across the image, not Caps Lock.

In Camera Raw I cannot seem to move sideways, only up/down.

Thanks!

John

Well, I may have misspoken. I thought I'd checked that page up and page down work in Camera Raw (not PS), but I just checked again and it doesn't seem to work on my computer here at work. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

PageUp and PageDown do work. But you have to first get to the upper left corner. Double-click on the magnifying glass to get to 100%, then either hold the space bar or switch to the Hand tool and drag your way to the upper left corner. Then you can pagedown/up to navigate through to check for spots. It is just the sideways movements that don't seem to work.

Thanks!

John

Thanks John. Pressing the Home button should also place you at the top left corner of the image.

"Should" is the operative word there!

It doesn't seem to work for me on my Mac until I've used the hand tool to move around the image. If I just open the image and double-click on the magnifier tool I get a centered image and the Home key doesn't do anything. But if I move the image (even slightly) by holding down the Space Bar or by selecting the Hand tool and dragging, then the Home key starts working.

Just confirmed the same experience on my PC. The Home and PageUp/Down keys don't do anything until I move the image slightly.

John, I don't know if this helps or not but, on my PC after magnifying 1:1, the home key works fine. Then if I want to move right I hold down the Ctrl + Page down key, to move left I hit Ctrl+ Pageup.

Up and down are Page Up and Page Down as usual. I don't have a Mac.

Thanks, Wes. For some reason or other it only works for me if I've done something else first. If I just open, go to 100% and press Home I get nothing (PC or Mac). I have to make some other move. Oh, well.

I used to drag the image across the screen and fix dust spots (Bunnies). Thanks for the great tips! What a time saver! Tony
