Does anyone know of any preferably FREE software that will allow us to extract single frames from .mov files?

I don't have CS3 Extended - which I think does allow editing like this. So I tried to use Apple's "Grab" screen shot tool. I captured the window of one of the first frames of a .mov file. But then I had to crop it extensively to isolate just the image. As you can see, even tho the Larger size is the exact pixel size I ended up with after cropping, the image is pixelated.

Larger

Some of us do have still DSLR cameras that also shoot videos. I'm wondering whether anyone has cheap or free editing software and what you think of it?
