Light Room TutorialNovember 5, 2008 @ 8:27pm
In this TME Digital Darkroom tutorial Patti Schulze shows you how to use the adjustment brush in Lightroom to retouch a portrait. Patti uses the adjustment brush to brighten teeth, enhance the eyes and soften the skin. Patti discusses how to resize and feather the brush. Patti also shows how to work with Lightroom’s auto mask feature to control where you apply adjustments to the image. Patti also shows you how to create your own adjustment brush presets to speed up your workflow.

Automask offNovember 6, 2008 @ 4:05am
Great tutorial. This is the best thing in LR2 for me. It reduces the need for Photoshop substantially. Thanks for showing it in a nice and easy form.

I would like to add a tiny correction. When you soften the cheeks it is better to turn the auto mask off in order to make the transitions more natural. Otherwise excellent tutorial!!!

Just want to tell you how much I learn each time I listen to your tutorials. I have the updated version of LR but haven't used it much yet because of the learning curve. Your tutorials are so inspirational, easy to follow and are are loaded with great techniques. I also enjoyed seeing Anita on the screen again. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise with us.

Patti,
Thanks for this wonderful LR2 tutorial. LR is quickly becoming my processor of choice. Thanks for the presets they will speed things up even more.

Lightroom 2 Local AdjustmentsNovember 6, 2008 @ 10:53am
I really enjoyed your demonstration of local adjustments. You showed me a few things that I will incorporate into my workflow. One question I have is: Can you delete only one local adjustment point after you have mede several on a photograph? I cannot seem to find this in any help section.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.

Yes, ljp_texas, you can delete a single adjustment point. When you select the adj brush all the adj points (they are called pins) are shown. Select the one you want by clicking it. When it is selected, there is a black dot in the center. Then just press Delete. You'll hear a sound and a puff of dust appears and the pin is deleted. If you can't see the pins when you select the adj brush, you may have the pins hidden. Press the H key to toggle show/hide. That is also a nice shortcut to know when you have so many pins you can't see the image!

Thanks tlustoch for your tip in unchecking Auto Mask when softening skin.

Patti
