Love the photo, the title...not so much.Wink

Suza, you've got a knack for compositing/texturing images in JUST THE RIGHT WAY! Your technique presents both an interesting and creative photo!

Now, because I am who I am (and that's nothing, really, but it sounded good!Wink ), I would like to make an observation:

The blending and the masked overlay is exceptional, and I thoroughly enjoy your capture and presentation. But I can't help but wonder what else I may be able to see in the lower corners. I would love to see them de-vignetted (is that a word?) a bit so I can see what's down there.

I also think doing that would balance the image, along with (dare I say it??) a square crop, removing the bottom entirely.

I see the story here in the stone and brush. The overlay of the texture and cracks. The shift in light.

The expansive foreground, if lessened, might indeed direct our attention more toward the story.

Just a though, or two. Or three.Smile

PPY-definitely!

I tend to agree with Greg. I like his assessment of the image's good qualities. But I too am wondering why the inclusion of so much foreground. Is this a cliff and is the building above it and we're looking up at it?

I think I see the lower parts of the building down "behind" the top part of the foreground.

Suza, I too think you have a very good technique on texture overlays. I wonder if you can explain how you do it…where you get your textures etc. I am a novice in this area.

I love this image and agree with Greg on his analysis.

Greg, thanks so much for your very thoughtful analysis! I will give it whirl, de-vignetting and squaring it up a bit.

There was only a bunch of weeds in the foreground on the hill. Maybe a snake or two!

Flo, I was standing at the bottom of a big hill looking UP and that building was just peeking out over the weeds.

Usha, this is layered in Iris Photo Suite on the iPhone, and one of the layers is a macro shot of a chunk of white crystals shot with the OLLO macro lens for the iPhone, faintly applied here. The original shot was with Camera+. I collect textures while I am out shooting.

The cracks we see are where the crystals are conjoining.

The crystal overlay layer made it look very watery below the building, softening the rough weeds.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

I think all your input has helped me make this a better composition. We can now more better see the details in the side of the building, the rounded doors, and the foreground overgrown weeds are still visible, transformed somewhat into a misty watery effect... I cropped out as much of the vignetting as I could, but couldn't get all of it.

This mysterious abandoned building is still magnificent, loaded with textures and great shapes. I think it's time for another visit to this place...

This is a wonderful forum. Thanks!!
