Beautiful catch, Stephen. And, yes they are quite skittish. I would never attempt getting within 2 inches for the shot because I would surely scare them off. Therefore I choose a macro 105 mm or a 180mm macro for my shooting.

Thanks Wes. I am not able to afford any fancy camera gearSad

I use a panasonic lumix dmc-tz3 as my base camera. I then made myself a lens from bits and pieces of old gear, a short cardboard tube, from the inside of a roll of electrical tape and LOTS of duct tape.

I focus my efforts on composition and creativity and push image quality to the camera's max. This way, when I am able to afford a "real" camera, I will be ready to take some impressive shotsSmile

You certainly don't need to defend yourself to me what kind of equipment you are using, Stephen. Obviously you are doing some great photography with what you have and that is what counts. I still believe the saying that "it is the photographer behind the camera and not the camera or equipment" that makes the picture.

I am enjoying your images a lot.

My golly, Stephen! With that kinds of "lens," you are getting remarkably wonderfully detailed shots. Much better than I've been able to get so far with my more expensive equipment. You also must have the patience of Job! Worshipper
