Love the leading line in both of these, Tyler. I get the feeling of treacherous shores in the first one, ships beware.

In the second image, I definitely feel the force of the water pushing against the wedge of stone. I am sure that if I was standing there, I would feel a little bit dizzy watching this event happen over and over again.

Just on the composition alone, these two images give me an entirely different feeling.

In the first I can see the horizon and part of the sky. Beautiful colors, too. Even tho the waves are riled up, I still feel "safe."

But in the 2nd image, I can't see the sky. I'm just looking down into the angry water and have only these few wet rocks to stand on. Therefore, I do NOT feel safe! I can't see what's coming at me because I see only water in my future!

What do others feel about these two images?

I would hang the first one on my wall - but not the 2nd. Even tho it's a powerful image.

The color one... the color harmony is fantastic
All the basics are spot on
Would you consider amping up the colors & contrast a little in post?

The B&W one
There is nothing for the eye to really settle on
But the image still holds the viewers interest
It seems the amount of detail and the lines in the rock is what makes it interesting.
Can you post the color edit of it?
The motion blur of the water helps give the image some story and context

Have you ever wondered what these would look like if the shutter was open for the more than 30seconds?

The long exposure of the 2nd shot creates a stronger feeling of motion than you'd expect for a long exposure. I like it.

The first shot, with the colors, doesn't even seem to actually be a rock--it seems more like the shattered o.a.k keel of an old sailing ship.

Both really nicely done!

thanks Wes! that second one was pretty crazy to shoot. i was crouched down handholding the cam at 17mm so my entire view was a bit distorted. whenever a big wave would come in it would be very hard to judge how far away it was while looking through the lens and trying to get the shot. luckily i did jump up and get out of the way of a few monster waves Smile

you are amazing at disecting images Flo! you stun me with the way you describe the feelings of the images. i can say you are spot on with your analysis.

the second was shot at 1/5sec at f/13. so not tooo long of an exposure.

as for the first that is exactly what i thought when i was composing this image. some petrified shattered keel of a ship long sunk

The new edit with more contrast and saturation looks better

It reminds me of the kind of images you often see in retail photography magazines. It finishes it off nicely

Great stuff

Yes, very differing feel to both.
I really like the colour version. Loving the lines that leads me into the image. I almost wish for it to be a bit wider. Guess I just want more.

Flo, I like your description of the second. Very tension filled, but really nicely taken as well.

Love them both. the B&W is very dramatic, while the color one (with amped-up color) is captivating and beautiful. It's not just the leading line of the inward-pointing triangle (the 'bow') but also the dark region at the base that draws the eye in.

I just came across this thread, and both images are beautiful -- very strong in conveying the qualities of fractured/shattered.

My favorite part, though, is your statement above. No matter how many times we walk the same routes, thing are always changing! (Note to self: pay attention. Smile )
