For those who have never seen a flower ovary, here is one (in green), surrounded by the filaments of the stamen:

And, for a little biology review here is the anatomy of a flower:

Nice capture, Wes.

To continue the biology review: The pollen (male) produced by the anthers, gets blown onto or deposited onto the stigma by an insect. The stigma is sticky, so the pollen doesn't blow off or fall off. Then the pollen starts growing down through the stigma and style until it gets into the ovary and finds an ovule (female) to fertilize. And then the ovule grows into a seed.

Plant "sex" isn't very exciting from a human POV, lol.

I don't know, Flo it depends on what turns a person on. I think that human sex gets to be matter of fact over time, similar to a flower. Cheesy

Great capture! I love that you can see so much texture on the petals, and the color is fabulous! (And thanks for the botany lesson!)

Very, very nice botanical shot. And thanks for the botany lesson as well.

Go ahead and play with the images. I would ask that when you post them on other sites (such as Flikr, Photobucket, etc.) that you credit my photography. I would do the same for you! Other than that, I'm E Z T D B W.

For some reason, I can never keep the male/female parts of a flower straight. This helps!

April, that's because you've never been a plant in a previous life! Grin Grin Grin
