Didji is my umbrella cockatoo. Since I had the Raynox 6X lens attachment on a 50mm lens, I wondered if I'd have any success at all trying to shoot a macro close up of his head and beak.

At first I didn't, as he wanted me to pick up up, so he kept bobbing up and down and waving his paw in my direction. Finally he settled to, realizing I wasn't going to handle him.

But when I leaned in close to try to focus, he'd turn his head this way and that. I shot lots of images, but only these two turned out halfway decent.

f/2.8. ISO 800. Hand held, of course.

I like the second one. I don't mind the limited depth of field in there.

I absolutely love the beak shot. Thanks for the patience it took to pull this one off. You did well.

Janet

Go ahead and play with the images. I would ask that when you post them on other sites (such as Flikr, Photobucket, etc.) that you credit my photography. I would do the same for you! Other than that, I'm E Z T D B W.

Thanks, John and Janet. I'd hoped to get more of his tongue in the beak shot and I had the camera set for burst mode - but apparently the shutter sound stopped Didji from flipping his tongue up and down. He'll sit and look at me for a long time - the only thing moving is that tongue moving up and down at a fast clip - until I stick the camera in his face, lol.
