This is an interesting subject. I'm wondering how it might look if you dialed down the bright highlights on the bark. I find that the intense white highlight directly above the leaves leads my eye away from your center of interest.

I see what you are saying. Not quite sure how to fix the highlights on one area...will play around with it though.
