When this White Egret poked his head into the marsh and came out with food, I thought that it would be a lizard or a frog.

A Dragonfly was kind of a disappointment.

I like the moment that you captured and I like the dragonfly. The Egret could have been holding that thing in any number of positions or had it further in it's mouth. You were fortunate enough to get some spread wings in your picture.

The species of dragonfly is unfamiliar to me. Would you happen to know what it is?

Curt, the dragonfly might be a 4-Spot. The upper wings look right, but I can't see the lower wings - if they have similar spots, too, it's probably a 4-Spot.

I didn't know these birds would eat dragonflies. It's amazing it could catch one. I like your capture very much.

Thanks Curt, Wes, and Flo. A four spot - yeah, I knew that (NOT!). I felt lucky to be able to distinguish a dragonfly from a house fly.

Let's see now--dragonflies eat lots of mosquitoes, and if you are what you eat, that means dragonflies must taste like...aw, forget it. No regrets from the egret, though.

Your extra attraction of this diet supplement really helps lift the shot out of the standard bird portrait. Congrats, and thanks for sharing it.
