My 2nd B&W Submission (not IR this time)July 3, 2009 @ 4:36pm
I thought that after posting IR images yesterday here in the B&W category, posting an actual B&W might be appropriate. This is one of my favorites taken at Lake Winnipesaukee, NH on an odd winter day. The lake is covered with about a foot of ice and the temperature rose suddenly one day to near 60 F. This melted the surface ice enough to provide a reflection (between slush from snow mobile tracks) and a great mist - the mist lasted less than 5 minutes in mid-afternoon; you were ready or not. Believe it or not this is a color shot - there was no color - so I guess that I've still not submitted an true B&W. Next time.

Wonderful, Ed. I also love the reflections in the surface melt. Black and white does bring out the coldness in the image. Brrrr.

Just think of the time you saved by not having to convert this to B&W in PS!!! How lucky you were to have been there at exactly the right moment, too. this is very very lovely.

I just found this, and was really thrilled! It almost looked like two shots, not a reflection. This is very cool!

Marty, I'm glad you found this again and made the comment about 2 images in one.

Ed, how about cropping down from the top to just below the bottom of the island, and then flipping the remainder vertically - it might make a beautiful and mysterious sort of abstract.

This is beautiful, how blessed you were to be there. I think "no color" is perfect for the feeling of coldness and aloneness that I feel.
