| Reasons to Celebrate | July 4, 2009 @ 2:19pm | I rarely post sports shots any more. I was asked to post some sports shots when I mentioned I was a sports shooter in another thread, so I picked these shots I took a couple of years ago.
This was a game between the #2 and #5 teams in the country that weekend, making it one of the biggest games in the country that weekend. It was between the Oregon Ducks (#2)and the USC Trojans (#5). It was as good of a game as I have ever seen.
Matthew Harper at the end of the play where he intercepted a pass from Mark Sanchez in the last 20 seconds of the game effectively ending the game. Left to right Jairus Byrd, Matthew Harper, Patrick Chung

This is Jonathan Stewart crashing into the end zone for a touchdown. He now plays for the Carolina Panthers in the NFL.

PS: Don’t know why I processed these in different sizes. Must have done them at different times for different reasons. I dunknow.

| July 5, 2009 @ 5:57am | Wingspar the framing for the top shot is amazing!
Its a powerful triangle of victory and when you look on the shirts and see ducks then all you can think of is...
Duck's fly in formation!
Fantastic all around, I bet Matthew Harper would love to see this one.

| July 5, 2009 @ 8:59am | Gary, Danny said it all! I love the triangle of victory. But why oh why did they decide to call themselves "Ducks"? It conjures such an incongruous image in my mind - ducks and football?! If there's any ducking in football, it's when the ball carrier tries to avoid being tackled.
Gary, thanks for posting these images. I love to see sports images, as I can't shoot them myself. So I do hope you'll post more from time to time. Do you shoot all kinds of sports or do you specialize?

Thanks for the comments. Because the play was at the other end of the field, and I was just too tired to go to the other end of the field by that time of day, most of the photographers were at the other end of the field, as the Trojans were marching down the field at will when Harpper intercepted the ball on about the Trojan 20 yard line, and ran the ball back towards me. He was run out of bounds, and he tossed the ball, and ran straight towards me. I got about 20 shots of him celebrating, gathering other Ducks along the way, so I may just have some of the best shots of this celebration. Just when it looked like the Trojans were going to score and tie the game up in the last minute of the 4th quarter, this play ended the game, hence extra celebration.

Being in the Pacific Northwest, with tons of rain per year, people joke about having web feet. I’m sure the University of Oregon named themselves the Ducks for that reason. Years ago they had Donald Duck coming out of the O on their helmets, but that disappeared a few years ago.
I mostly cover high school sports. Football being my favorite, but I also do basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and softball. I am slowly starting to back away from shooting sports. I hope to do a few Oregon Duck games this year, and the high school football team, but not sure how much longer after that I will continue to shoot sports.
