I like this photo (which was shot raw adn never post-processed yet), but I hate the crop. I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve the crop of this photo as well as any other useful suggetions:

Ron, I am not sure what I would do here. You have a very nice focused bee in front of a very busy background. Have you tried a 100% crop on the bee to see what that includes? Unless this is a 100% crop Smile . The only other thing I would probably try, would be to blur the background just a little more, but I would have to play with that before I could decide. I would like to see the bee a little closer.

I had a couple similar to this shot this last summer. If I were to handle this shot similarly, I'd crop off most of the distracting background on the right and then darken the background that remained. I might also take a bit off the bottom of the frame to leave the bee on a diagonal with the flower and flower stem.

I'm not quite satisfied with that solution, but I think it's an experimental starting point (always save the original!).

I'm curious: What do you "hate" about the crop, and what do you most like about the photo? That might give you a lead into post processing which most brings out what caught your eye.

I enjoy the complementary colors in this image, and that's something I might try to punch.

I can also envision a square crop, as RickT alluded to, to emphasize the diagonals.

P.S. It's interesting that when I click on this image I'm taken to a bear, scratching it's jowels?Smile
