I found this cabin on a road trip one afternoon during the first week in June! This is in the Peace country, Northern British Columbia. The last snowfall was at the end of May so the snow was just starting to melt.

Charlene, I love that this is in black and white. When I saw this my first thought was of an old western movie. What a find!

Great cabin shot, Charlene and a heap of snow, still. As I focused on the cabin, I noticed there was no chimney, therefore no fire, therefore no warmth, which is what I would need if I was here at this moment.

I sense the chill in the air, while it is close to 90 degrees here.

LOL, and I'll bet John Wayne is lurking inside, just waiting for the bad guy to come back home, thinking he's home-he's safe!

Wes, you're right. No chimney! So perhaps this cabin was used only during the brief summer?

A possibility I hadn't thought of Flo.

Very nice, I like that the lines in the snow mirror the lines of the cabin. I also like the high contrast of the B&W conversion.

As for the chimney there are a couple of possibilities, it may have had a metal smokestack which has come down during the winter or it may have a metal smokestack out the back end of the cabin.

Regards,

Phil

Hi Flo, Becky, Wes and Phil,
Thank you all for your comments. I always appreciate the time people take to comment.
Flo, you always get me to smile, your imagination is always great.
I think that this was a trapper’s cabin. As for the chimney, there was a stove inside but I think the chimney was taken out so that people wouldn’t light a fire in it and burn the place down. The cabin was locked up but I could still see through the heavily screened windows.
Have you ever been to a place that just gives you the creeps? This place made my skin crawl for some reason. Maybe some old hermit trapper’s spirit was in there wanting me to stop looking in the windows.

I find the image sad because of the wire over the windows.

Its a strong image, but that detail just brings in vandalism to mind which ruins the inherent purity of the scenery and makes me sad for this world we live in.

Hi Danny,
Thank you for commenting. I feel the same way that you do about the wired windows. In a larger version of this photograph you can see where some people have carved words into the door and the logs. I just don't understand why some people have to vandalise.
