| August 6, 2009 @ 11:54pm | Marty, great shot. Love the B&W. Where is this at? Bar seems rather lonely and abandoned. Kind of gives me a feeling and emotion of someone drowning their sorrow in a beer, all alone, while they watch the energy and life outside. Wanting to be there, but content in the shadows of loneliness.

| August 7, 2009 @ 3:29am | I am getting a completely different view on this one and I think it may have something to do with all the NCIS, Bones and Criminal Minds I have been watching lately ( I love who dunnits )
This especially now that I come to analyze my thinking a little is an NCIS shot, if you have ever seen that show the screen goes black and white and shows you a glimpse of the future, and then when that moment occurs in the running of the show it goes black and white to emphasize this is the future glimpse you got earlier...
Anyway here to me the title "people watching" becomes predatory With the person watching people walking by, waiting for the one that fits the bill and then leaving the bar to follow them. Then the scene is not one of loneliness but dark and scary like a glimpse into the predators mind
I gotta stop watching so many thrillers!
A good story driving image Marty, thanks for sharing it with us.

| August 7, 2009 @ 8:56am | Marty, a fantastic exposure, framing, composition, etc. I'm glad you converted this to B&W, too.
Sean and Danny - your comments have ignored the fact that there are TWO filled beer mugs. They seem to be placed some distance away from the "predator," so perhaps they are not his. (Note my use of the masculine, here!)
The fact that they are full and together indicates to me that the bartender placed them there for the waitress to take them to some customers we can't see. Perhaps, also, this is the bartender's view after he placed the mugs there - he's further down the counter wiping it. Looks up and sees this gal traipsing past the open door. Wishes she'd stop, turn around and come in. Not gonna happen, tho. And where IS that waitress? She must be in the ladies' room. The head has disappeared from the beers and I hope the customers don't send them back.
BTW, I love NCIS, Bones, etc, etc! Plus reading good mystery novels.

| August 7, 2009 @ 1:51pm | It's always interesting to hear what other people see in a picture!
I guess it is a little creepy looking.
It was a rare, quiet day at McSorley's, on Manhattan's lower east side. There are two glasses of ale, because you must order them that way (don't worry, they're small mugs). You also must order ale at McSorley's. You cannot get a bottle of Bud, a margarita or (God forbid) a cosmopolitan. They only serve their own style of ale. They do it this way because it's the way they've been doing it since 1854. It really is a must-visit when you're in New York.
Thanks for the comments! |

| August 7, 2009 @ 5:05pm | The empty feeling is a paradox to me when I think of sitting in a bar in NY and seeing nothing bu 1 person walking by and two lonely ales to be grabbed by someone? It looks like it could be in the wild, wild west.
