Wonderful series - I agree that the spa images are particularly nice.

Wow, these are fantastic! You've certainly captured their personalities very well. I don't know which is my fav - I want 'em all! A whole wall full of them! That'd be a great way to start a day - to come downstairs and be able to look at these wonderful animals each day!

Great set! You could have dribbled them out to us one by one and kept your thread alive for a month Wink .

I like your decision to concentrate mainly on their faces, which aren't just sometimes comical, but also very expressive. In reading about these Japanese macaques, I was surprised to find out that a single macaque accidentally discovered the comfort of the hot springs while chasing some food thrown by humans (1963). Within a couple of years the entire social group was soaking in the springs during the winter.

Great shots and their faces are so expressive. I too am glad you went for the intimate facial shots.

I don't see how these could be any better. You have not only captured the storytelling moments but have done it with finesse and expertise.

Go ahead and play with the images. I would ask that when you post them on other sites (such as Flikr, Photobucket, etc.) that you credit my photography. I would do the same for you! Other than that, I'm E Z T D B W.

I agree with all of the above. These are wonderful! Was this at a zoo, or in the wild?

Thank you very much, I am glad you enjoyed the photos. I had so much fun photographing them (though I almost frozeSmile

This is not a zoo. I photographed the monkeys at two locations - in Kyoto, and in Nagano prefecture. In both locations monkeys live in the wild, but during the day they come to the touristy places attracted by food the workers supply.

Sasha there are some amazingly powerful emotional archetypes in these images,

The one with the head in the water and the eyes closed is a symbol of relaxation and peace.

Or the shot of the monkey in the water looking at his open hand has always been an image associated with great philosophical questions such as who am I, who made me, etc.. I have often looked at my own hand in this way, it is a very powerful image.

The Mother holding the baby in her arms with a look in her eyes as she looks around, protecting her child.

The shot with the young monkey holding up the arm of the father, and the fathers face radiating patience as he puts up with this game.

REALLY powerful shots Sasha now when is the next plane to Japan Grin

Ok ok maybe notSad so please... for me... post some more images from your trip there.

Danny
