Wes, you say this is NY ironweed! I thought ironweed was ironweed, lol. Does NJ have it's own ironweed? Or Canada, or Florida - or - ?

| August 17, 2009 @ 9:28pm | I find it all over the place, Flo. I first sited it on one of my bike trips down the C&O Canal. There are usually more blossoms but I, too, liked what I saw in the background.

| August 18, 2009 @ 8:04am | When i first saw the shapes in the background, I thought you'd used one of your creatively cut rings for Lensbaby - then realized this isn't a Lensbaby image!
Has anyone tried using thin black plastic sheeting (like from a black plastic garbage bag), and cutting out a shape in its center, then screwing it tightly between the lens opening and a step-up ring or a 52mm "skylight" filter? Ought to be able to get some fancy shapes in the highlights in the backgrounds. Like we get when using a 100mm macro lens that has 5 blades for its aperture?

This has to do with the bokey, Garth.
I did make another insert, Flo. It consisted of two very thin slits vertical to each other. Haven't had a chance to see what it will look like though. Maybe I will give a try in San Francisco next week.
Your idea sounds interesting, too, so step up to the plate and see what it does.

| August 18, 2009 @ 1:04pm | Wes, is this a Lensbaby image??? LOL
So you made a horizonal slit and then a vertical slit? And you got this type of bokeh? Wow - and thanks for the tip!
I'll be nice, now - I promise!

Sorry for the confusion, Flo, no this is not a lensbaby, it was taken with the Olympus. I don't have any yet with the newest insert.

Becky, do you really think that Flo and I know what we are talking about either? It is just one nut talking to another nut.
