I am new to this community and this is my first experiment/attempt at uploading an image for comment. What started out as a typical color "snapshot" evolved into a rather nicely layered B&W image. My co-workers said the telescope dome actually reminded them of Three Mile Island during a melt down - bummer!

The backstory on this is my wife and I were invited to the McDonald Observatory Board of Visitors meeting last month out in West Texas - unfortunately for my wife I carried my camera and tripod along creating an instant photography widow.

I love the clouds in this image, Pablo. They do appear to be in layers as they cover the domes. I think black and white simplifies the image in this case and I can take my time looking at the details.

Wow, that cloud does give the illusion that it's emanating from the dome - not a telescope, but a Three-Mile-Island type of reactor. Nice capture.

Isn't your wife used to being a photography widow by now, LOL? Give her a small camera and see what she does with it!

Pablo - I agree with Flo, and Wes the clouds are great. Hope to see more.

Nice image, must have been a fascinating place. It is interesting on the placement of the cloud over the dome.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. My wife and I had a great time visiting the observatory - very interesting stuff they are doing out there. One of the things they are exploring with the HET telescope is "dark matter" - dont ask me to try to explain it - something about the universe having more mass than is visible. If you want to learn more do a google and visit the McDonald Observatory web site.

I am going to try and upload a few more photos that I took out there - one is a digital pano
with frame.
