A moving memorial in daylight that also wears the night extremely well.

Sam, this is creepy in the best way. It's a great use of B&W, too.

A very nice, mysterious rendition of this monument, Sam. While standing at this particular monument, I can almost feel the intensity of this particular moment in real time. The quiet before the storm kind of feeling. I like it at night, too.

Ditto Marty and Wes! I've never seen this before - but I think you captured it beautifully - and yes, B&W was the way to go here.

Hi Sam,

I've seen this memorial and much prefer to be there in the late evening and early night. It has such a powerful impact at that time. You've captured that mood very nicely with this image.

I love the soldier you chose as your closest subject. With his hand out to "hold you back", it puts the viewer right into the scene and on patrol with the others.

Very nicely done.

Just wow. It's like a screen shot of a black and white war movie. I want to visit this memorial next time I am in DC.

Wow is right! I feel like I'm there in the photograph.
Well done Sam.

Thanks to all for your comments. Marti, the soldier with his hand out was an obvious subject for the focal point for me. He seemed to command attention with his gesture. This was my first time in DC, a trip I took with my 14 yr. old son last week, who is a fan of U.S. History. It was a wonderful time to spend with him. By the way, I bought a compact camera for this trip to shoot with instead of lugging around my DSLR kit. I am glad I did as the convenience of lighter weight and ease of passing through all the security screenings paid off. The camera used was the Sigma DP2. I am very pleased with the high quality files this camera is able to produce as well.

A great shot of this memorial.

I have seen it during the day but not at night. The intensity of black and white and night is significant.

This is an incredible and powerful image Sam. To me the way you captured this really depicts the feeling of loyalty and sense or responsibility a soldier has for the members in their squad/platoon. Definitely brings back memories and experiences of serving in the armed forces during a conflict.

Glad that you chose to shoot this at night and really gives the monument a completely different look and feeling.

Thanks for sharing!
