| Cosmos & Bee Silhouette | August 19, 2009 @ 4:06pm | Was playing around with an extension tube today. Lots of bees, but could not focus before they would fly away. This is interesting the way the bee came out looking like a silhouette casting a shadow on the flower. C&C appreciated.

| August 19, 2009 @ 5:23pm | I have never seen a bees leg in such sharp focus before,
A great shot, the bee shadow on the petals really makes it!

I do love the bee's shadow, too. I agree that this makes the image extra special.

| August 20, 2009 @ 12:21pm | Thanks for the comments. I was trying to shoot bees, but was 100% unsuccessful. This may be the only one I didn’t delete. I don’t know if bees tuck their legs under or not. This guy was probably just going to the next flower. The one in focus foot/leg and his shadow helped make this image something.

| August 20, 2009 @ 5:09pm | Gary, from what I've been told the trick is to shoot just as they fly away from the flower. I dont stand a chance at the moment its far too windy here. I like the line of focus.

I’ve tried that, and that might have been my method with this shot, but I am never focused in the right place to get the bee in focus, and my DOF is usually not enough at that close of a distance to get the bee in focus anyway. Some people are very good at this. One of the best is a fellow named LordV over at the Camel. He is also a mod in the macro forum over there.
