This is a tone mapped version of a tree in Long Beach Mississippi. There are at least 50 of these carvings along the coast from Waveland to Ocean Springs. They are trees left damaged from Hurricane Katrina. I plan to photograph as many as I can.

Very interesting, Bill. It sounds like a great project to pursue. I love the way the clouds create such a complimentary background to the porpoise tree. I look forward to seeing the others.

What a lovely idea to create such beauty from such a terrible event. A grand capture of this one, hope you post more of them

Bill, thanks for posting this. I've seen these tree carvings featured on TV, too. So I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your series. I like your angle of view very much.

Bill,
Beautiful image, and a great idea for a project - are you using Photoshop for the tone mapping or some other program?

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.

Pablo, this one I used photmatix pro3.1 to tone map then the usual cs3 touches.
