Quote (Marti)

Wes is continuing to improve by the hour. It's amazing just to watch the progress -- almost literally -- hour to hour. He's sitting up in a chair for a large part of his day now. He's been up and for a long walk around the entire ICU area twice already today...[more good news trimmed].

I am just astounded, and thrilled for you Wes! You are an inspiration, in so many many ways. Thank you.

Here's wishing you a regular room, freedom from those tubes, and wayyyy better meals very soon! Open Arms

Update Saturday EveningSeptember 6, 2009 @ 12:23am
He Everyone,

We left Wes getting ready to sleep around 7:45 PM this evening. He is now disconnected from all of his tubes and is planning to move out of ICU tomorrow sometime. So, the progress continues.

He was up and about, taking his walks around ICU three times today -- even managed to "escape" the ICU for a few minutes to the ICU waiting lobby where there is a beautiful view of the trees with very early fall colors.

All continues to get better and better.

He asked me to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. He is very touched by your kindness and friendship. Hopefully, he will be allowed to have his computer in the next day or two so that he can join in the fun here on the Community.

A huge thank you to Usha who not only has been here for and with Wes through the surgery, but also for putting us up at her home while we are here. Thank you so much, Usha!!!

Catch and releaseSeptember 6, 2009 @ 1:19pm
Hey Everybody,

Wes is just a few minutes away from being released from the ICU.

Thank you for all of your continuing positive intentions, prayers and support.

I have been with Wes for the last two hours and we have done nothing but laugh and have fun.

I have to believe all of your love has made a big difference.

I want to say a huge thank you to Usha for all of her love for Wes and for giving Marti and I a home away from home while we are here to hang with Wes......Craig

Hi Ara,

If all continues to go as well as it has, we (including Wes) will see you on our trip to Big Bend in November. Then, the two of you can compare notes!! Smile

Monday Morning UpdateSeptember 7, 2009 @ 12:23pm
Hi Everyone,

Wes is continuing to improve. When I got here this morning, he was up, had eaten breakfast, and had a shower. He's looking better and better -- said he was a little tired today because he slept very little yesterday with the move from ICU to this very nice large room on the second floor. He's taken a walk already and moving about the room quite nicely on his own -- no more assisting him when he stands up from sitting in a chair. He's progress is amazing!!!

Hey Marti (and Wes)

All this news is just so great. I showed Mimi (my daughter) Craig's latest photo of Wes walking in the hallway. She said the nurse looks like she has angel wings. Perfect! Cheesy

Going HOME!!September 7, 2009 @ 1:07pm
Hi Everyone,

Wes' surgeon was just here. They are releasing Wes to go home to Usha's house tomorrow morning!!! Wa-Hoooooo!!!

I got to see his incision this morning when they changed the dressing and it looks really good -- healing nicely.

Wes does have two other procedures that need to be done -- but they can be done in an overnight stay either later this week or very early next week. They will schedule that before he leaves in the morning.

All of your thoughts, prayers and good wishes have payed off!!!!.

Good news, indeed! Wes must be so glad to be getting out of the hospital. I'm hoping that nurse (maybe she's a doctor?) was a nice distraction while he was there. Smile

Way to go Wes!! Although we have not yet met, I feel that I know you from all the love and support that has been expressed on TME.

Keep on progressing. They obviously need you on the Big Bend workshop. That's going to be one doo-rag clad group.

The Doctor Is Back!!September 7, 2009 @ 8:54pm
Hi Everyone,

Just left Wes at the hospital where he had a great day. He's been up most of the day and spent the day reading all the wonderful messages y'all have been posting for him here. He also talked to many friends and had a great time telling them the story of his surgery.

I knew he was really back when his nurse, Gary, discovered Wes' background in anatomy. It seems Gary has created and teaches a course in cardiac anatomy for EMTs and other emergency workers. The two of them spent the longest time talking shop and Gary was anxious to show Wes his course presentations and get his input.

Here are a couple of snapshots that I took of Wes walking with Gary and reviewing his course presentations.

Wes and Gary doing laps with Wes waving to admirers
