I gotta say, I love the pictures of the teacher and the student. Wes just has that natural way about him. Good to see you up and about, Wes.

There was a when - when folks routinely lost battles after wisdom teeth went wonky. Not terribly long ago an appendix rupture was beyond treatment. In 1992 the vein attached to my heart crimped. Had that happened fifteen years earlier, this comment would not be here. But instead a team of cowboy medics threaded a stent up my leg. After effects? Well I have become intermittently obsessed with exercise pangs. Today I rode my bike up Lancaster's most challenging hills after completing my morning calisthenics. Next week I'll start again at the gym. I'll muscle metal around at an early hour three days a week.

Is there a moral to all of this? Well, I'm hearing so many bad things about our *(*& medical system in the US. You know, the one that routinely installs stents and bypasses. And leaves nice people like you and me, doing our photography, sharing our feelings, and teasing others to share our life-wonderings.

And I'm content that we will both be doing it for a while Wes... You and me and the wonderful folks in this chain who wish you what you deserve... and what the medics will make happen... More time for us to enjoy your wonder.

Looking forward to your swift return Wes. Oh, and BTW... I'm not recommending that you go after the most challenging hills... they are a hell of lot more uncomfortable than today's surgery.

So okay... Flowers are the things we're supposed to lug to hospital rooms, eh? Well I went out back to find you something and discovered this pair...A fragile bloom... and an indestructible metal bird... Enjoy:

Wes,

Our family will pray for your speedy and complete recovery - that seems especially appropriate considering where I last spent time with you! I’m eager to see your first post recovery TME post!

Ted, that was indeed a lovely post.

I'm overwhelmed, Wes. Do you wear some sort of cape under your hospital gown?

But April makes a good point:

WhoooooPeeeee! Wes! Way to go! And to think that you and that Gary also connected big time! Teacher-to-teacher, patient-to-nurse! WOW!

I'm so happy for you I'm just splitting with excitement. Be good now, treat Usha gently, and don't go trying to look up Marilyn's skirt again - at least not for a while!

Wes is OUT!!September 8, 2009 @ 6:43pm
Just to let you know that Wes is out of the hospital and resting here at Usha's home. As with hospitals, it took a bit longer to get out than we had thought. He looks good and was very pleased to be out. He will go back for a small procedure later this week, but then be a free man!! On to cardiac rehab!!!!

I will head back to Atlanta on Thursday and Craig is going to stay over to be here with Wes, giving Usha a chance to actually go to work.

It's a great feeling to see him out of the hospital!!! A HUGE thank you to Usha for putting me up for the last few days. She's been an excellent hostess and a true friend to Wes.

Hey Wes,

I'm so glad to hear your recovery is going well. I still can't believe you were at less than 100% at the workshop in SF. So glad that you got such great care from your medical team, Usha and of course Craig and Marti.

Keep it up and looking forward to seeing you on a future workshop.

Way to go, Wes! Congrats. Hospitals do have their paperwork, their procedures, etc - so of course it always takes longer to check out than one would hope.

Usha, Marti and Craig - you're all angels for being such great and supportive friends of Wes'

Bill from Downingtown - welcome to the community.

John C - what a gang you've assembled! They're participants in your first workshop, right? Grin

Hi Wes,

Well, you are the best looking man I have ever seen come out of the ICU !! You have a great photographer. Take advantage of your care-taker......have him rub your feet, make you tea, all that good stuff! So happy to see and hear all the great news. Love, Joanie

A Great QuoteSeptember 9, 2009 @ 12:44pm
Here's a great quote on healing, by Mary Baker Eddy:

".... I will tell you the way to do it. It is to love! Just live love-be it-love, love, love. Do not know anything but Love. Be all love. There is nothing else. That will do the work. It will heal everything; it will raise the dead. Be nothing but love" Mary Baker Eddy

Does it count if I was wearing a doo rag while making the photo? I like to think of them as my local Flickr Meetup group (though much smaller, we usually get around 100 people to show up at events).

Free at last, free at last, thank God, I am free at lastSeptember 9, 2009 @ 4:56pm
I know this may sound cliche but it was the feeling that I felt when I left the hospital. I am humbled by all of the well wishes as well as the surgical prowess of my surgical team. One of the doctors was only 31 years old and hardly out of diapers but, boy what a team he had to work with. Dr Sriram told me that I just added another 19 years to my life so I can still finish up some unfinished business before I shed the do-rag for a last time and say goodbye before I leave this beautiful earth. I too am a stubborn old coot who just wouldn't listen to my body's signals of poor health and it took Usha, Craig and Peter a trying moment of time trying to get me to a doctor but I immediately signed myself out I just wanted to go home.. Sorry for disappointing you all. Thank goodness they didn't give up on me and you all haven't either. Thank you for your continued patience with me and my stubborness (a terrible genetic disease), I should try to live without.

I had three great angels directly around me at all times during the surgery and you beautiful people giving me a helping hand on the side. How lucky can a guy get?

Usha and her husband, Murali, have kindly invited me into their home during my recovery and I thought maybe it would be a good idea, so I continue the road to recovery with their blessings. I will be forever grateful for so much love and friendship that I have received from the community and only hope I can repay you all some day.

Thank you for helping me gain a new lease on life and for your continued support of TMElive where the community has always been a source of inspiration to me. "What I did during my summer vacation pales by leaps and bounds to others' posts in the new challenge."

I love you all with deep emotion and the tears flow without flooding my computer. Only one simple procedure left to repair an abdominal aneurysm. It doesn't seem to end!!!! But I probably had this for a long time. I was just lucky that it didn't blow after many years of living.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, one and all.

Loved all of your pictures !!!!!!! Needless to say. I haven't been taking a lot of pictures, lately.

Wes

!!!

"Oh, no big deal. Just an aneurysm, la-de-da." Wes, you take casual to new levels. You make the public persona of Perry Como look downright frenetic. Well, in the meantime, work that rehab and get yourself to a strong place for those finishing touches. I doubt your stubborness can be classified as a genetic disease since it hasn't "selected you out" yet.

(Sorry, I should not be cracking jokes to a guy with a split sternum. Hug that chest pillow!)
