| Blue Flower | September 10, 2009 @ 9:19pm | I still havent picked up the macro attachments for the lensbaby yet. I like the bellows of the 3G because you can pull it out to focus closer.

| September 10, 2009 @ 9:21pm | Blue is my favorite color and this is a lovely shade. I like the hint of blue in the background. The orange is a lovely contrast for tension. Becky |

| September 10, 2009 @ 10:23pm | Ditto what Becky said about the hints of blue in the background and the contrasting orange. I love how many of the petals have both blue and red on them.
Blue/purple is a complicated/compound color in flowers. Blue actually isn't a pigment. The blue is refracted from the light falling onto the specially shaped epidermal cells.
At least this seems to be true with blue clematis. Clematis flowers have very large epidermal cells and you can see how they refract the light if you use a strong magnifying glass. With the purple, the red color component is either pigment, or refracted in smaller amounts than the blue - and when mixed together, this make us think we see purple.
I think this same principle is true for purple crocus flowers. This is why it's so hard to get a camera (film or digital) to record the exact hue of blue/purple we think we see with crocus flowers. Also, the hue changes with our relative direction to the way the light falls on the epidermal cells.
