| An Invitation to Give Back | September 15, 2009 @ 9:52am | Hello everyone,
As we are a community dedicated to the education and inspiration for the mind and spirit of the photographer, and as we believe in giving back to the communities in which we live, I want to introduce you to a project in which I'm getting involved. If you find it appealing, I encourage you to get involved in your own community.
The project is called Help-Portrait and some of you already know about it. As an introduction, I encourage you to go to the Help-Portrait forum site and view the video by Jeremy Cowart. After that, take a look at the Facebook page where you will see a few familiar TME faces already there.
Also, you can subscribe to news of this project here on the third page of the original site.
My local photography club is getting involved in our small community. I encourage you all to consider this, or some other project to give back to our communities, as the traditional time of giving in our world approaches.
Thank you so much for being a part of The Mindful Eye Community!!!!

| September 16, 2009 @ 6:32pm | Wow. "Connect, share, serve." That goes right to the heart of the TME community, and to elements of my own goals through photography.
This project is a great idea, on a scale from small & simple to regional/city-wide, and I encourage everyone to take a look! It's making me think about what might be possible just in my own neighborhood, and Chicago is famous for its neighborhoods.
One other note: I recently got up the courage to approach "The Birdman" in our community, and ask if I could take his picture. He wears a wonderful cap adorned with feathers, and loves to feed pigeons while sitting on the lawn outside a local rehabilitation center -- one leg has been amputated, I learned he suffers from seizures and doesn't always have bread to give the birds. But he was totally open, has a beautiful smile, and one of his friends joined the session holding hands.
What especially touched my heart was that Birdman said he'd love to have a print to hang on his wall. I can only imagine how spare his room might be.
So while the video/project expands to a grand scale, and can sound daunting, I think even a small gift with the same spirit would have great value.

| September 16, 2009 @ 6:53pm | Michael Campbell did this in the Dominican Republic (or was it one of the other island nations?) - he took along a portable printer and gave each person a print.

I remember; that struck me strongly, too! It could be another great way to participate in this project. Hmmm...

| September 16, 2009 @ 11:46pm | Our local camera clubs work together with area high schools to provide pictures for seniors who are unable to have their portraits made. Qualifying seniors come from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances that prevent their caregivers being able to afford these memorable pictures. It is a very rewarding experience and not unlike the project mentioned by Marti. I encourage everyone to participate in something like this. We all gain so much more by giving back just a little.

Go ahead and play with the images. I would ask that when you post them on other sites (such as Flikr, Photobucket, etc.) that you credit my photography. I would do the same for you! Other than that, I'm E Z T D B W. |

| I love this idea | October 22, 2009 @ 6:23pm | I have often thought of trying something like this. Thanks for the info and the inspiration, I will find a way to bring it to fruition next year.
