All,

Last weekend I attended my first bull riding tournament. The combination of low light and a f4.0-5.8 lens made for tough shooting conditions (even at ISO 3200).

The shot below was one of the better ones of the evening. I would appreciate any comments you may have.

Chris, for your first attempt at a challenge like this, I think it's very well-done! The focus seems to be a little more on the background than on the bull (of course, the bull is moving, which makes it hard to tell).

This was at 3200 ISO? I see very little noise. Nice!

Marty,

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

The focus was somewhat on the bull. When I tried to follow the bulls too closely, nothing was in focus. My shutter speed was about 1/60 most of the night so it was almost impossible to freeze the action.

The noise is low because of a Photoshop plug-in called Noise Ninja.

Chris, this must have been frustrating. Now you know why pros spend such huge amounts of money for f2.8 constant aperture tele-zooms.

But I do like your image a lot - it shows the action very well with the slight blur.
