This is a new project for me. It's a variation of a "photo a day" kinda project.

My project is more of a "photo-every-time-I-exercise" Grin There's a spot of wilderness with a paved trail running through it that's on my way home from work. I've visited this area to exercise many times over the last decade.

The purpose of the project is really to keep my photographic skills maintained and to also grow as a photographer. There's more info on my blog if you're interested.

Sounds interesting, TJ. Nothing like restricting yourself to a certain area to learn how to "see" in a different manner. Or at least how to find subjects that differ from your usual types.

Thanks, Flo. It kind of matches with my comments to Usha's post about assignments. This project is not terribly specific, but it is "restricted" in a sense.

What an inspiring place to run in, TJ. If I could still run, I would certainly be out along this path each and every day. Sounds like a nice project.

Thanks Wes! You can do all sorts of things out there. People run, roller-blade, bike, walk, and pee in the woods. It's great Grin

My mind just hit an imaginary play button in my head and I heard the sound of your laugh, Wes. Brought a smile to my face.

Hope you are well.

A month and a half has passed, and I'm still at it. Although I've only been on 7 walks (got distracted with a different, short photo project and then some emergency work happened at work related to that damn oil well that's still spewing oil into the Gulf).

Hope you're not afraid of snakes Grin

As well as Wes' garden, I want to come photograph with you, TJ, in this beautiful place!! Lovely images!

Beautiful place and I really enjoyed my visual ramble through your images. But Marti, if you want to go walking along there, methinks you'd do well to be wearing some high snake-proof boots, lol.

We don't have the poisonous ones right around here. But we do have the Natrix water snakes and altho they'll bite, they're not poisonous.

What a beautiful photograph of this butterfly "in situ."

Thanks Marti, April, and Flo! I appreciate your comments.

Y'all are all welcome to join me if you're ever in the Houston areaSmile And you don't need any special gear other than mosquito repellent. The snakes are all quite sluggish and non-aggressive towards humans.

25 and Counting....August 27, 2010 @ 11:18am
Just an update. I've done 25 of these photo-walks in the past five months.

I summarized five lessons learned on my most recent post:
http://www.texbrick.com/photo/blog/?p=277

In short, it's been a great project, I've learned and experienced a lot, and I will continue!

TJ, I'm glad you're keeping up with this project. And so you've learned to see what normally you would have missed had you merely used this area like everyone else does - for exercise.

That earthworm looks a tad dry. I hope it made it to some damp soil before it expired.

The spider image is intriguing to me. The spider is so unusual and quite large, if that's a full-sized dragonfly. I love seeing the details of the spider's pattern and also the colors of the doomed dragonfly

Awesome shots from your project, TJ. I haven't checked this out for a while so am glad to see that you are continuing with your weekly walks through the park.

Thanks Flo & Wes!

Those spiders are the largest non-tarantula spiders in North America. Their webs are exceptionally strong. I've frequently seen full-sized dragonflies and also cicadas (also rather large and robust creatures) caught.

The earthworm was out on the path, and after I took the picture, I put it off to the side beyond the pavement.

If you dig back on my blog to previous posts, I have other photos of dragonflies and cicadas who are about to be, or have become, spider fodder Grin
