Four photographers who attended the Spring 2009 Next Step workshop will be showing our work at Gallery 14 in Hopewell NJ, April 23 - May 30.

They are all portraits, taken at or inspired by the Next Step workshop.

Wow, Mark - that's great! I live only about 10 miles from Hopewell! Do all of you live in NJ? How come you 4 and I don't know each other, lol?

This is very cool.

I love the synergy that led to you four having a group show, and that The Next Step is ongoing for each of you!

I visited Gallery14 on the web, and hope they'll post at least a couple of the images to their site so we can view. Even better, if the participants would post here. Smile

I also downloaded Gallery14's Portfolio Review Guidelines from the News section, and that has inspired me to look once more for outlets in Chicago where I might be able to show my work. Would you care to share more about how this opportunity came about?

Best wishes for many visitors to a successful show!

Thanks for all the energy, folks!

Flo, I seem to remember that you're in or near New Hope, right?

Three of us (Jorj, Robin, and I) live not far from you in PA. Daniel lives near Princeton. There was one other New Jersey person at our workshop, but he failed to keep in touch afterwards; we had wanted to include him in the show as well.

Any chance you can make it to the opening? Then we'll know you!

I don't think Gallery 14 posts the images. If not, we'll do it ourselves at some point, and we'll be sure to let you all know!

April, as for how it came about, Daniel would be better able to answer that. I'll put you two in touch by e-mail.

Mark, I live between Trenton and Princeton, NJ. So Daniel and I are practically within shouting distance!

My email is flo at tonebytone dot com - so if you could put Daniel and me in touch via email, I'd be very grateful.

I'm sorry I can't make it to the opening, tho. I'll be in the throes of packing to leave the next day for Savannah! But I'll be sure to attend the showing after I get back.

Congratulations, fellows, on continuing the work you all started in Next Step!! What a great way to keep the spirit of creativity going. Open Arms

Wish I were closer and could attend.

Per your requests, and because none of you can make it to tonight's opening, here's a web gallery of the photographs in the show. It's not quite the same as big masterwork prints in a gallery setting...

Nine of the twelve were taken in Savannah during the workshop; the other three were inspired by the workshop. Can you guess which?

Thanks for the kudos!

At the opening we got some interesting feedback, in particular on the names we gave the photographs (which are shown at the bottom of the web gallery).

Before I color your opinions with that feedback, would anyone else care to comment on them?

We'd love to hear feedback, particularly of constructive criticism variety. On the titles, the images, how well they work as a set, which grab you and which don't, or whatever you've got to say. Thanks!

I may have named some of them a little differently. But I'm interested in the images not the names. I didn't even look at them till you said.

Feed back, the only image there that did nothing for me was the dog one.

The name 'Captain Steve' means nothing what so ever to me. Is that some USA thing or should it mean something?

And "Homeless, Savannah," don't look to homeless to me, homey but not homeless.. Grin

Thanks for the feedback.

For "Capital Steve", the second from the left is Robin's son, and this is his high school band, which is called Capital Steve.

My two favorites as individual photos are "...new day's song" (such a fabulous moment and great title) and "Girl's Club" (I really like the toning, and the ageless serendipity of the moment).

"Contemplating Loss" intrigues me as well. From both the photo and the title, I want to know more about the story (or make up my own story.)

I like the diagonals in "Eyes", but I'd like to see a darker background to emphasize the eyes even more.

I like the story in "Their embrace thickened...", and the story I make up is different specifically because of the title.

As far as going together as a set, the two animal shots don't fit as well for me with the others. Even though they are all portraits, the birds and dog are different enough that they stand out as different to me.

Thanks for sharing with us, Mark, and congrats again to all of you.
