Tennis Anyone? – 2010April 18, 2010 @ 8:06pm
All,

It is time again for the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger. After receiving a lot of great feedback here last year, I was eager to capture more player emotion this year. I was partially successful.

There was one player that was very expressive and he provided shot #3, which is my favorite. I wish I had photographed the other players as effectively.

Most of the backgrounds were quite busy so I found myself keeping the images where I was shooting the players against the back portions of the court. I should have shot from that position for most of the day; however, I only did that for the second half of the day. As a result, I have kept only 30 images out of 500.

I will have to try again next year.

In the mean time, I would appreciate any comments you may have.

Cheers

Chris

I like #3 too. It's very emotional. Too bad you can't do something the guy with the red shirt behind him. Maybe a blur if you can't clone him out.

These are great! About #3 - I'd crop up from the bottom - eliminate the red shirt and make the image into a square. Just a thought - or convert to B&W. I do think the crop will concentrate better on his expression, rather than on the lower part of him which adds nothing to the story.

He's also the subject in the 2nd image. Here again, I'd crop, but down from the top to get rid of uninformative background info. The moiré pattern at top right is distracting and the crop would eliminate that.

Barbara and Flo,

Thank you for the comments. I appreciate it.

#3 is significantly cropped as it is so I will have to see if it can take more cropping. I will look at the B&W as well. Believe it or not, I have desaturated the red already.

I will also look at cropping down #2. I agree that would help the image.
