As I was moving Lacey(my other horse) to the pasture Shotgun(this horse) was watching through the hole he has made. I feel this picture as captured the longing look in his eye. What is your critique on this photo.

Shotgun certainly does look like he wants in on the action. Not just his eyes, but also the fact that he's made a hole by chewing on the boards and is thrusting his nose through it.

The chewing is an annual winter longing. Every winter Shotgun spends his days in a tie stall (since we get too much snow), so each year he creates a way to watch the outside world. One year this was pushing out a barn board so he could stick his head out. The year of this picture it was away for him to watch his caregivers as they approached/left the barn.

After losing Shotgun to illness, I find this the best personality picture I have of him. It depicts his longing for me to not leave him, and creates a feeling of longing in my heart for this kind old soul.

I'm sorry you lost Shotgun. It hurts when an animal gets sick and dies and we're left feeling helpless and bereft. I hope that you still have Lacey.

You have a wonderful image to remember Shotgun! Even with such a tight shot, the animal's personality really comes through.
