| Onion Flowers | June 24, 2010 @ 11:12am | These miniature flowers look like a big bouquet when shot up close. I wonder what they smell like. I forgot to check.

| June 24, 2010 @ 3:06pm | Green, white and purple - beautiful calm peaceful color combo. I think the flowers will probably smell like onions, lol.

| June 24, 2010 @ 6:05pm | We have little wild ones that grow in the foothills, and the tiny stripes on the flowers are purple. I have tried to smell them, but haven't detected any scent--unless I break the stems, in which case the odor is onion or chive.
I like the angle you chose for the flowers, which I think adds to the bouquet image you mentioned.

| June 24, 2010 @ 6:16pm | Flo and Rick said it all for me. Nice shot . I would be curious to see a flip (horizontally) version of the bouquet.
Very nice shot.

| They finally opened! | July 7, 2010 @ 4:04pm | I was beginning to think these guys would never open. I even thought perhaps they opened at night and closed in the morning so one night I came out at 3am thinking I'd catch them but they were still closed. Yesterday I noticed they finally opened and I snapped this quick shot. - btw they smell distinctly "oniony" like chives or such.

| July 7, 2010 @ 10:07pm | Indeed these are beautiful little flowers in their own right - whether they smell like onions or not, lol.

| Onion Flower Nectar Drinker | July 8, 2010 @ 7:18am | The smell of these flowers is attractive to some. I came back and this little guy could not get enough. It let me get up really close with a number of hand held shots.
Anyone know what kind of insect? Looks like a wasp to me. I did not know they like flowers.

| July 8, 2010 @ 7:50am | It looks like what I call a "bee fly." It has two wings, as true flies do, instead of 4 wings like bees do. Also the insect in your image is very small and bee flies are very small. They do like flowers.
If the focus had been on its thorax, you might have been able to see its two little "gyroscopic" wings, which are modified rear wings and rotate out from its sides - I think they act as in-flight stabilizers.
A really good image. I find the pattern on its rear end fascinating.

| July 21, 2010 @ 7:18pm | This is a beautiful image. I love the subdued light and hues, and especially the feeling of delicacy.
I easily imagine the 'bee' dancing lightly over the tops of those fragile flowers.
