Headed out armed only with the macro and in search of insects the other day. These little guys (about 1 cm/less than 1/2 ") were everywhere. Problem is, they were less than co-operative when it came to posing for a picture. They seemed to be in the middle of some sort of feeding frenzy or something. A tripod was not an option. I persisted and came home with a couple of usable images.

f 6.3, 1/100 sec., ISO 400, distance 0.2 m, with the Leica Macro Elmarit 45mm lens.

Thanks Usha and yes, I'd already thought of that. Done.

Magnifique! The colors are stunning. I specially love the beetle's carapace colors like metallic hues. Diagonal composition is impressive, the creamy bokeh is very pleasant either. Bravo.Smile

Chapeau, Bill (as Micheline would say, but didn't this time, lol)! I agree with all the others.

Iridescent green and red-gold--it just doesn't get any better for macro shots. I'm glad you hung in there to get your shot. I hope you get another chance to shoot these guys. Look at the salad fork tips on the antennae!

Yes! I've been trying to think of something they reminded me of and you've hit it! Also could be spaghetti forks, lol. As long as the bugs are dining on succulent greens, we might as well keep within eating metaphors.

Nice portrait of this colorful little beetle, Bill. The strange part about these iridescent colors is that they change depending on the light and the photographer's point of view. Of course trying to get them to sit still is a big problem sometimes. I think you did a great job.

Thanks again everyone. Here's one I snapped when it fell onto my lap which illustrates Wes's point - same bug, different colour pattern. My daughter also noticed that you can see my reflection on his head.

This bug is very photogenic. I love the RGB triad in your picture. Did you shoot it that way or did you post-process the colors? A very nice shot. Bravo!

Wow on the 2nd beetle shot, too! I don't think I've ever noticed denim so close, either.

Thanks again Flo. Micheline, the hues are as shot, just boosted the saturation a tad. Thanks.
