Getting as close to the flower without falling into the water, I shot it with a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens. Then at home, I cropped the image.

Since I felt that the edges of the petals in the center of the flower didn't show up as well as they could, I tried using the Posterize Edges filter (don't remember under which tool it is, tho). I created 2 duplicate layers. Used the filter on the top layer, then moved it to under the first duplicate layer. Painted in only the flower and only enough to start seeing the edge separation better. Used a large soft brush @ 7% opacity and made only 2-3 passes to bring out the edges.

Do you think my efforts improved the original?

Magnifique! It seems to me that the first one is more luminous... Not sure, though. If so, my fav. Both are beautiful. You are right, the petals are more precise in the second one.

Flo, I do not have time to comment a lot.

I like the yellow lilies almost as much as yellow sunflowers. The petals on the yellow ones are really hard to get to show up and not over expose them. Your treatment has worked on these. Seems like the centers of lilies always have a glow to them. Maybe that is how they attract the pollen movers.

Micheline, thanks for taking time out from your vacation to comment. I too think I lost some of the luminous yellows from the original. But then I do think that the petals stand out better in the 2nd one.

Thanks, Wes. Yes, yellows, whites and reds seem hard for digital camera sensors to capture the nuances which make flowers of these colors so beautiful.

Flo - Like them both, but prefer the 2nd. I think it really helped to remove the distractions in the corner. And I agree with Wes - These can be hard to expose and you did a great job.

Dang, I'm the odd one out yet again! Why am I always out of step. I like the first best, the removal of the bottom left bit of leaf does the job for me and the colour is richer on the first. Sorry!

Trish

PPY anytime and welcome
