| Montana Past | July 31, 2010 @ 11:57am | These old grain silos are located north of Livingston Montana on highway 89. When I am in the area I stop here to work out new compositions for this subject The last time thru, this storm blowing in from over the Crazy Mountains.

| August 1, 2010 @ 7:37am | Phil, lucky you to have such a scene and old buildings with character to visit once in a while. I like your POV here, plus the dramatic storm clouds add interest to the sky.
You mentioned Crazy Mountains - do they look "crazy" enough that including them in the background might make for an interesting POV?

Flo, the Crazy Mountains are off to the left behind the buildings and the clouds. A small portion of the Absaroka Range can be seen in the background between the two buildings, some 30 miles south.
Mateo, thanks for viewing and commenting. Your point of view is interesting, but creates a completely different feeling than I was striving for. I was trying to show the calm, still moment before the storm arrives. Your interpretation, for me anyway, creates tension and a feeling of uneasiness, which is fine, just different than mine. It seems also that your version might have gone a bit far and darkened the buildings enough that they lost some detail, you could resolve that issue with a bit of masking to lighten just the buildings and not the clouds. Having said all that, thanks again for viewing and taking the time to consider another option.

I'm kind of heavy handed when it comes to contrast and exposure.
I was paying too much attention to the clouds and not the buildings.
I'm new to photoshop and my technique (if you can even call it that) tends to be global.
I know masks exist but they are above my skill level at the moment,
I just "found" convert to grayscale and HSL so I'm going a little crazy.
Super photo, would love to see more!!
