Can't paint worth a darn but just had to try the new mixed brush filter in CS5.

The flower started as real.

Wes,

I really really like this. You did a great job with the mixed brush filter.

I like the flow and color combination. Great job of experimenting.

Keep it up

Thanks, Tim. I do need a lot of practice, however.

Wes,it is a nice try.
I am very hesitant about this kind of experimentation. In my eyes, the light is lost or almost, the texture is quite uniform between the subject and the background. Not enough contrast nor shades in the flower's colors, not to mention the bacground. The shooting POV was good, though. Just an opinion. Huh?

I comment this picture too. I know it is late.

I don't understand why you post the Marsh prairie in Milwaukee on this thread not on macro. That is why I missed this series.

Wes, I do realize this is one of your first experiments with those brushes. I like the fringy blurs. But I also think you need to be aware of maintaining depth illusion, which you did lose here.

But it's a much better result than I'd have produced in my first few attempts, so bravo!

Thanks, Micheline. Your thoughts about the result make me rethink my abilities as a painter. Perhaps I need to study paintings to see what the artists saw, before I attempt my hand at touching the paint brush. The original image was very pastel like and didn't have much in the way of shadows and contrast. I guess that is why I felt like I could improve on it. I will continue to practice and see what comes of it.

Flo, I understand what you are saying. You have said much the same thing as Micheline. I do need more practice, for sure, so will quietly and secretly do that at home before I post one of my painterly pieces of wannabe art. As always, thanks for you comments.

ROTFLOL! Wes, I can just picture you in my mind's eye, all huddled up in front of your computer, with all your doors shut and the drapes drawn across the windows - secretly painting away with your pen and Wacom tablet! I hope you come up for air soon! Grin Grin Grin
