Our Pledge to You

This workshop, held in Knoxville, Tennessee, will utilize and expand upon many of the skills introduced in Location People I including natural/ambient light, on and off camera flash systems, studio strobes, mixed-source lighting, and light modification in each case. With minimal review, these fundamental techniques should be well in hand allowing us to spend more time putting them into practice and exploring more of the fine nuances and “art of lighting”. We will also spend significant time in my studio exploring more complex lighting and/or nontraditional setups and their application in multiple genres of studio-based people shooting. Field exercises will involve more technical shoots and more complex production. With the Fall colors of East Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains as our backdrop we will photograph people at locations varying from historic interiors to urban cityscapes to mountain and lake landscapes. One day will be spent shooting on location on beautiful Norris Lake with and elegant dinner hosted by my wife and me at our home on the lake. We will continue to work with both models and everyday people but will introduce stylists and make-up artists into the production mix. This workshop will continue to build on the interpersonal skills required to effectively work with human subjects and manage an overall shoot. The number of participants is limited to a smaller group to allow for more time with each model and setup and more individual instruction. As always, image review and critique will be central to the learning process. Additional Information

Getting There:

The Location People II Workshop will be hosted in beautiful Knoxville, TN located in the foothills of The Great Smoky Mountain National Park in East Tennessee. The Knoxville airport is McGee Tyson (TYS). The airport is approximately 15 minutes from downtown Knoxville. There is taxi service and there are rental cars available at this airport. Taxi fare to the historic district where our hotel is located is approximately $15.00.

We will release workshop participant contact information to the members of this particular workshop, with each participant’s approval, as the workshop dates approach so that you may arrange car sharing, etc. with each other.

We will only need enough cars to transport participants away from the city to shoot at two or three locations outside of the city, weather permitting. For the rest of the time, all of our shooting locations are within walking distance of the hotel. We do encourage the participants to share cars.
