Fun with PanoramasNovember 22, 2008 @ 9:25am
These first I call "Keystone Panoramas" - to make them, I first shot the subject straight on, hand-held with the camera level. Then I rotated the camera slightly to the left for the 2nd image; then slightly to the right for the 3rd image.

If I keep the bottom center point centered in all 3, then I get the outline of a sort of keyhole shape. If I put the center in the center of the subject, then I get a different shape.

PS CS3 has no problems stitching these 3 images, no matter where the center point is located. You can also paint the white backgrounds black or some other color, if you wish.

Joel Perlman, "High Spirit"

Baruch Ashem, untitled

John Martini, "The Couple"

Metasequoia

This last is a pseudo-panorama. It's a composite of 1 original panorama, flipped horizontally and then the 2 were composited onto a blank of the proper size.

Let's see some experimentation with pano formats. Please post the results here? TIA

Neat idea, I'll have to give it a try.

This is so creative. I'm excited to try this unique technique and join in your fun. Thank you ever so much for sharing.

Janet

Go ahead and play with the images. I would ask that when you post them on other sites (such as Flikr, Photobucket, etc.) that you credit my photography. I would do the same for you! Other than that, I'm E Z T D B W.

Thanks Peter and Janet. I hope you both can shoot some experiments soon. I'm looking forward to your results.

You mention both Keystone and Keyhole. I would go with Keyhole. They look like they could have been taken through a keyhole. Keystone says "distortion" to me (when you tilt the camera and the top of a building is narrower than the bottom, etc.) and I don't see that happening here.

Very nice!

LOL, John - my only defense is that both words start with "key" Tongue

Flo, these are really neat. I like the first position of the first type.

I wonder at the way you think of things.

Thanks, Becky. Each of us has a unique way of thinking. Which makes for a wonderful world.

As usual, Flo, nice shots and an interesting approach to panos. I do like the way you think and play.
